"Dark Plains"

Recorded during a visit to the Nepenthe Farming Outpost on Thaum’s Landing, this aerial shot shows the arrangement of fields in the black earth. Looking straight down you can see the organic contours of the land as well as the loose geometry of the farms. The angle makes the whole area appear dark and industrial but misses the fact the skies are usually filled with golden light, making it an ideal spot to grow in an otherwise harsh climate. The carbon-rich soil has worked its way into the grains and other food grown here to support the neighbouring worlds, often resulting in surprisingly black, yet edible, food.

In case it wasn’t apparent, the Engram Institute, Solal Moyer, and the story described on this site is a work of fiction. Any similarities to real people, places, or organisations is unintentional. It is part of a private art project to explore the transient and intangible nature of human memory. To explore the question: even if we could download and see snapshots from another person’s memory, could we truly capture and interpret them as that person did?
